Sir:
I have the honour to submit a brief report on the
activities of various members of the Benazee family in
connection with the licenced opium traffic with the Middle
and Far East.
Following on the declaration of the Government
of India that the export of Indian opium would be reduced on
a sliding scale, the various countries which used formerly
to draw on India for their opium have now turned to fersia.
So much so, that the majority of opium exported from Bushire
is now licensed, completely roversing the position obtaining
daring 1925 when the unlicensed opium formed the bulk of the
export. The di inution in the export of unlicensed opium
may also not be unconnected with the disturbed state of
China
Singapore, Sarawak and the Dutch East Indies have
been importing opiak on licence from rersia, and siam ia now
endeavouring to do so. for all these countries the
Homasee family seen to be the chief suppliers, either
dir otly, or indirectly.
In regard to Singapore, I was requested by the
Governor to see if arrangements could not be made locally
to supply, but when after consultation with His Majesty's
Consul
